Can i freeze smoothies
If you want it for breakfast should you pull it from the freezer and put it in the fridge the night before? I will try that, but must first buy those cute 2 cup mason jars. Through Radiant Recovery-google if interested. I like the vanilla the best.
Almost any health food store has it. I follow nearly the same method, but I add a little almond butter too. I need to try chia seeds! Are they nutty like flax? Hi Sara, thanks for the recommendation.
We will have to try them. Great idea! I am SO jealous that you have a Vitamix! I love that these can be made ahead, so easy as you stated above. Anything to reduce how much I need to do in the morning is a huge help.
Thanks for sharing, Bree! I love my Vitamix! I use it all the time. Glad to make your morning just a little easier. This is such an awesome idea. Im on the fence abt buying a blendtec.. Great recipe.
I too love smoothies in the morning and will freeze one to see if it will come out tasty. I really liked this! Think we will try at home.. What a great idea! I was wondering if the protein powder is rilly needed or if you would like something protein but a bit lighter and vegan could you suggest a subsitute?
I just discovered your site. I am really loving it! It is needed for my husband because he needs the protein, but you can make these any way that you like. Does it turn brown oxidize? Hi Bree, if you are looking for a great vegan, no-dairy protein powder, I love Amazing Greens! I try to avoid anything with whey to cut down on anything mucus-building and animal based.
I also was trying every kind of protien powder i could get because of bad taste! Hi there. I was wondering if there is any change to the vitamins, minerals, and enzymes with the freezing process? Just wondering if any of the health benefits are lost? I think that even if there were some loss, it is better to drink a smoothie for breakfast than not. I just love your website! I drink smoothies like this every single morning! All those are extremely tasty!! Quick question! What kind of protein powder do you use?
Flavored, or unflavored? And which flavor did you use for this specific recipe? I usually use vanilla of whatever brand I am using. I use whatever flavor I have in the house. I have never noticed them being too sweet. Make sure that you are using unsweetened milk. That can add to the sweetness.
This is brilliant! I would love to start having smoothies for breakfast but my work shift starts early and i dont have the time to blend a smoothie before i rush out the door. Now thanks to you, I can! I would need to get myself some of those jars. Thank you so much for sharing this! You are welcome. I do this all the time for husband. He leaves super early and this makes life even easier.
I made smoothies last night and froze them for work this week. Because i didnt have protein powder or chia seeds, I omitted them. The smoothies turned out tasty but the texture was a bit off. I will really need the seeds and powder as thickeners. Thanks again for your post! You are welcome! Sometimes I prep them and freeze them before I blend. I have been freezing my smoothies for breakfast and lunch for years.
I figured most people did this or took a small blender to work. My small cheap blender does not chop or mix well, so the freezing idea was a last resort for me if I wanted to have smoothies for lunch. I also buy spinach by the extra large bags and freeze them, which causes them to blend better in the blender to me, because the crunchy texture tears easier. Thank you Ann! I do that too. Smoothies once frozen will be at its best for about 2 to 3 days. Beyond that will be alright, but you may notice some changes in flavour and consistency depending on the ingredients you used.
There are simple and fancy ways to freeze your smoothies based on your creativity. If you plan the most common way to do it, there will also be guidelines on how to do it properly. This method is best when consumed the next day or two.
You can toss the cubes in a glass and thaw it before drinking. You can also pull them out of the tray, straight in your mouth as a smoothie-cube snack slash dessert! Smoothies come in different colors and flavors. One of the favorites is the blueberry smoothie. Its sweet and sour flavour can definitely satisfy your cravings.
I like the idea of freezing for later! I know the fiber in fruit helps some, but I would prefer an added protein source. We actually do smoothies with dinner almost every night foe the kids. My youngest has never been a big dinner eater and this assured he fot some greens and protein into him to reduce the number if times he would wake up starving.
We use Costco Greek Yogurt it is very high in protein , a little frozen fruit, milk, a lot if spinach, and a banana. Even when we use blackberries there smoothies are green. If we have left overs we rarely do I freeze them into popsicle molds for afternoon snacks. Nice and cold for hot summer afternoons and again they are getting a good dose of protein, some fruit, and a ton of spinach.
When frozen the lids are prone to cracking. I have 6 containers left with only one purple lid. The lids are not replaceable. I consider them a waste of money. This post has inspired me. First, I never knew about the freezer jars.
The same day this was posted I had to go and buy some. Second, the idea of freezer smoothies is absolutely brilliant. Someone mentioned adding veggies.
I buy the baby spinach, wash, and flash freeze it. Throw a handful or two in the blender and it hides perfectly with some blueberries. The kids drink them up and have no clue. I love it! The smoothies would be good to freeze in the molds too…hmmmm! I seen in comments one person put veggies in smoothies.
Does anyone else do it? What veggies and do the kids notice. My 3 oldest are great about eating veggies, but my youngest wants no parts of them. In pre-blended smoothies it may thicken the smoothies a bit, but that would be the only issue. TIP: Biotta sells pure beet juice in a bottle.
Not cheap, but this adds a nice fruity pink color along with nutrition to cover the army green color that comes from mixing veggies and fruit. For efficiency I make up and refrigerate 6 bottles at a time for myself. They separate, so need shakimg. Otherwise they taste delicious even on Day 6. I was able to look up your question and if you seal it well you can store your smoothie for up to 3 months in the freezer.
Hi there I have a question. I have been having issues with my smoothies lately. I make them, put them in the freezer letting the air out too , I take one out and put in the fridge the night before. I am a meal preparer. I need something quick and on the go in the mornings. What do you think is going on?
Hey Melissa, What are you putting in the smoothies? The ingredients? This will help me troubleshoot what the issue may be. I am wondering where you got those cute mason jars with the straw-ready lid.
If I missed a link, I apologize. You could leave it off until frozen solid just to be safe, but still leave lots of run at the top for expansion and use freezer-safe jars.
Great info thank you!! I am trying to make smoothies on the weekend to have during the week. I usually make 3 different types of smoothies leave some in the fridge and some I freeze for later in the week.
If there is an easy formula you follow or suggestions. Thank you. I have been making a big batch, and freezing portions then removing to fridge the night before, but I am getting a gross separating-curdling effect. I use bananas, strawberries, tart cherries, blueberries and raspberries, water and greek yogurt. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks for the help! I might have to go into quarantine next week because of the pandemic and am wondering if I will have to give up my daily smoothies while isolated away from my family and the kitchen.
Hey K, Are you pre-making and blending the smoothies and then freezing? Hi, I was just wondering if you have any experience with the green smoothies turning brown when you freeze them?
